Advent by Candlelight Info
VIRTUAL Advent by Candlelight
St. Owen Parish
Women of St. Owen,
Our 17th annual Advent by Candlelight will take place on Tuesday, Dec 1, 2020 from 7-8:00 PM via Zoom. Although this is a new format in consideration for everyone’s safety, this event will still support our Sharing with a Family Program and prepare our hearts for Christmas. Last year 51 families (251 people) were given food baskets and gifts for Christmas because of the donations from our Advent by Candlelight evening and the generosity of sponsoring families. This is also a great opportunity to bring your family and friends near and far to share in the Advent spirit. Please share this information and ask those interested to register.
We are so pleased this year to be joined by our guest speaker Nancy Mason Bordley, D. Min., who has ministered in Religious Education and Adult Education, Worship and Music areas for over 40 years. She is a spiritual director and facilitates retreats. She received a Graduate Certificate in Spiritual Direction from the Dominican Center for Religious Development and is the founder of “Parish Services“ for lay ministry services for the Archdiocese of Detroit. She is co-author of “Acts: A Call to Serve”, to train ministers for voluntary service with the Church, and has served at several parishes in the Archdiocese. Nancy is also an adjunct professor at Siena Heights University and The Graduate Theology Foundation.
Nancy Mason Bordley, D.Min. will be presenting “Home for the Holidays: An Invitation into the Heart of Advent and Christmas”.
Registration is now currently open through 12 noon on November 30, go to www.stowen.org, Advent by Candlelight, and click on “To Register click here” button, fill in your name and contact info, and you are all set. A link will be sent to all registered participants via your email address the afternoon of November 30. Please do not share the link. Every attendee needs to register so we can control the numbers. (We have the capacity to accommodate up to 500 participants)
A free-will donation button is also available at registration (www.stowen.org); proceeds benefit our Sharing With A Family program. Your donations provide a joyful Christmas for many of the Detroit families from Capuchin Soup Kitchen/Rosa Parks Youth Program, St. Scholastica, St. Charles Lwanga and St. Moses the Black Catholic Churches. Every donation helps make a difference, thank you for this consideration.
Note change this year – online Zoom meeting
You will need to download the Zoom Software/App if you have not yet done so.
It is not necessary for you to create a Zoom account just to attend the meeting.
For those unable to attend on Dec 1, we will have a recorded version on our church website after the event.
To satisfy your need for fellowship; we suggest that in addition to our 1 hour online Advent by Candlelight event; you may consider hosting you own Zoom meeting at a date and time of your choice, inviting guests to gather, create a theme of what you want to share during that time, talk and reflect on the wonder and beauty of Advent; the hope of tomorrow.
