Parish twinning programs are committed to nurturing a mutual acceptance, friendship, and care between Catholic Parishes in the US and in the Third World. When a decision by both parishes is made to twin, a practical and caring relationship is established through frequent communication, assistance and prayer.

St. Owen has formed a twinning relationship with a parish in the Dominican Republic- St. Augustine.

Here are some facts about our twin parish:

Sr. Carol Gross pastors the St. Augustine parish community. It is a very poor parish which suffers from high unemployment, no sewage system, inadequate water system and undependable electricity. Its people are welcoming and giving of the little they have. Most of the people living in that area desperately need evangelization. Few are baptized although they consider themselves Catholic. St. Augustine has infrequent opportunity for Mass celebration with a priest, but regular prayer services are held by lay people Sr. Carol has trained.

Our Goals:

  • Contribute our gifts, talents and energies to help the community of St. Augustine
  • Create a bond through prayer, work and a sharing of life.
  • Promote awareness of the causes of poverty and injustice.

How Can You Help?

  • Pray for the Country of the Dominican Republic and our brothers and sisters there.
  • Learn and share about Dominican life and culture
  • Create and participate in the twinning projects initiated by St. Owen for St. Augustine.
