“Dzien Dobry” (Hello), my name is Eva Ashor and I am St. Owen’s Bookkeeper and the Business Manager (Certified by Archdiocese of Detroit in 2011.) I have been working here at St. Owen since the summer of 2002, and so far it has been a wonderful journey. I was born and raised in Poland and moved to United States in 2000. I met my husband while spending summer in Kalamazoo as an exchange student. We have two beautiful sons Nicholas and Anthony. At first I thought of my job here as a temporary escape from the cold corporate world, where words like “fairness’ and “justice” have been redefined. I was planning to stay here until I found my way back into the business world, since I had graduated from the Academy of Economics in Poznan, Poland, majoring in finance and monetary policy. However, I never did and soon discovered why I was here. My work is not a job; it has become a ministry which has made my life so much more meaningful. I am growing every day in my faith and understanding of the most important truths in life. I’ve learned that the Church isn’t just a religious institution, a building, or a Sunday obligation – here, I see the Church as her people and their remarkable gifts. I can’t describe what a wonderful blessing it is to be part of St. Owen Community. It is a true joy witnessing your dedication, generosity, goodness and love. “It is in giving that we receive.”
