The proper environment for beautiful liturgy doesn’t just happen. People who prepare the worship space provide the necessary elements for liturgy. A well-prepared environment enhances the liturgy and conveys the importance of our worship.
Plan, (along with the Worship Commission) and set up and tear down the environment of the worship area with banners, drapes, flowers, etc. appropriate to the liturgical season.
The time depends on the number of volunteers and the plans for the season. Environmentalists may serve as long as they wish or until asked to retire to a different ministry.
Gifts that are Needed and Developed for this Ministry
An eye for color and artistic design, flower arranging, sewing skills would be helpful, but not necessary. Knowledge of liturgical environmental recommendation and requirements are important. A willingness to pitch in and do what is needed, realizing that all ministers, working together, make liturgy the work of the people.
An opportunity for familiarity with the Documents of Vatican II on the Liturgical Environments is provided.
Benefits for the Volunteer:
Having prepared the elements for the liturgy gives one pride and a special interest in the rituals that take place. It makes the volunteer feel, “This is my home; I help take care of it.”
